World Treasures of Naples has some stunning beaded jewelry from the Ndebele people in South Africa! Our store wanted to share with our customers some fun facts about the Ndebele people.

The Ndebele's are considered to be a part of the Nguni Tribes and they speak IsiNdebele, which is one of the 11 official languages recognized by the South African Constitution.

There are three main groups of Ndebele people:

The Ndebele people in Gauteng and Mpumalanga

The Ndebele people in the Limpopo Province

The Ndebele people of Zimbabwe.

The two South African Ndebele groups are not only separated geographically, but also by their cultural practices. The famous stunning house-painting, beadwork and ornamentation often spoken of as Ndebele are produced mostly by the Ndebele's of Mpumalanga and Gauteng, which is were World Treasures of Naples receives the jewelry!

Beadwork is intricate, time consuming and requires a steady hand and good eyesight. All of the beadwork is handmade and takes many hours to complete. This pastime has long been a social practice in which the women engaged in and a lot of the jewelry they make is sold to the public!
